Do I need anyone’s permission or consent?

You have the right to make your own decision.

Under Singapore’s Termination of Pregnancy Act, the decision rests with you. The law requires only that the procedure be carried out at your own request and with your own written consent. There is no requirement for parental or spousal consent, and no minimum age for the procedure itself.

However, if you are under 16, you must first complete counselling at the Health Promotion Board Counselling Centre and receive a Certificate of Attendance, which must be produced before the procedure.

A mandatory 48-hour cooling-off period follows counselling. Our clinic is equipped to provide the required counselling on-site.

If a patient is unable to make the decision for herself for medical reasons, our doctor will ensure the proper legal safeguards are followed before any procedure. Please contact us and we will guide you through it.

Contraception

I’ve had unprotected sex. Am I likely to get pregnant?

When accidents happen, be assured that there are options available as a backup, provided you seek consultation with us as soon as possible. Some emergency methods may still be able to drastically reduce the chance of pregnancy, provided they are done within the first few days.
Today, there are many contraceptives or birth control methods to choose from. Our clinic is readily available and happy to discuss the different options with you in order to determine which method is right for you.

  • Our contraception services include:
  • Oral contraceptives/birth control pills
  • Depo-Provera injections
  • Implanon® insertion and removal
  • Intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD)
  • Mirena® levonogestrel intrauterine system
  • Tubal ligation surgery
  • Emergency birth control / Morning After pill: Postinor and Ella

If the above are unsuitable for any personal or religious reasons, do feel free to discuss other non-prescription options with us, which may include:

  • Condoms
  • Spermicides
  • Natural family planning

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Abortion is legal in Singapore under the Termination of Pregnancy Act when carried out by an authorised doctor at an approved medical institution. The procedure is done at the woman’s own request and with her written consent. Our clinic follows all legal and health requirements to protect your safety, privacy, and well-being.

No. The law requires only your own request and your own written consent. Parental consent and spousal consent are not required. If you are under 16, you must first attend counselling at the Health Promotion Board Counselling Centre and obtain a Certificate of Attendance before the procedure.

There is no minimum age for the procedure itself, and parental consent is not required. If you are under 16, you must complete counselling at the Health Promotion Board Counselling Centre and receive a Certificate of Attendance, which must be produced before the procedure can be carried out.

You are eligible if you meet any one of the following: Singapore citizen or permanent resident; wife of a Singapore citizen or work pass holder; holder of a valid work pass (WP/EP/SP); or resident in Singapore for at least the 4 months immediately before the procedure.

Yes, if you meet one of the eligibility criteria above — most commonly, holding a valid work pass (WP/EP/SP), having been resident in Singapore for at least the preceding 4 months, or being the wife of a Singapore citizen or work pass holder.

The legal limit is 24 weeks. Beyond 24 weeks, termination is only permitted where it is immediately necessary to save the woman’s life or prevent grave permanent injury to her physical or mental health. In practice, termination is best carried out before 12 weeks, when the options are simpler and recovery is faster.

An abortion can be carried out early in pregnancy, once the pregnancy has been confirmed and dated by ultrasound.

At your initial consultation, you will usually undergo: pre-abortion consultation and counselling; a bedside pelvic ultrasound; viewing of the official pre-abortion video as required by law; a 48-hour waiting period (longer if the pregnancy is still very early); and scheduling of the procedure and collection of any medication.

Please bring your identification or eligibility document: NRIC for citizens and permanent residents, or a valid work pass (WP/EP/SP) for pass holders. If you qualify as the wife of a Singapore citizen or work pass holder, bring your marriage certificate. Foreigners qualifying on residency should bring a passport and evidence of at least 4 months’ continuous residence in Singapore immediately before the appointment.

For a surgical abortion, your experience under sedation is essentially limited to falling asleep and waking up — pain is minimal to none. In fact, our most common patient response after regaining consciousness is: “Has the procedure started yet?”

For a medical abortion, which works by inducing a miscarriage, heavy bleeding and severe cramping can occur, though this can usually be managed with oral painkillers.

After a surgical abortion, most patients recover quickly and can resume normal activities within a day or a few days. A medical abortion typically involves more downtime, as the outcome is less predictable and requires closer follow-up.

When performed safely and when after-care instructions are followed, an abortion generally does not affect your ability to have children in the future.

We place the greatest importance on privacy and confidentiality, prompt appointments and flexible scheduling, comfort, and safety throughout your care.
